Berlin artist Magic Island’s new video for pop track “Like Water” sounds close to what you’d expect. With a drippy, ethereal, and fluid electronic texture to back up striking vocals and a rounded, rubbery beat, Magic Island’s video fits well as a counterpart to the emotionally-clustered track.
The main subject of the video begins on a treadmill in a well-lit room when the lights suddenly go out. Throughout the video, she is constantly running and walking in place as she speaks of words as if they are water, being something that does not stick. Her location keeps changing, yet she still can’t manage to leave her post. The video stirs an emotional response as the character seems to have lost her way, until we end up back to where we started.
The video was coached by Kiani Del Valle and produced by Klein & West. The debut album of the same name, Like Water, was recently released through Berlin record label Mansions & Millions, including efforts made by producer Karolini and vocals by Sean Nicholas Savage.
